Internal illustrations and book layout design
Mood board, original sketch illustrations, and a mock book publishing logo to bring the book layout to life
For my capstone illustration project, I illustrated select scenes from my childhood children's book Yeh-Shen: An Ancient Chinese Fairytale. It is the Chinese version of Cinderella, and supposedly one of the oldest versions of the fairy tale. The costume and setting are historically inspired but with fantastical colors. The medium is water color, inspired by the water theme within the story and the Asian origins, done with calligraphy brushes on watercolor paper. A traditional rice paper was considered, but the watercolor paper provided a crisp and modern look.
